Columbine, a crafty serving girl, is one of the characters in the comic cast of the Italian Commedia Dell-Arte. Her portrayal continues one of Royal Doulton’s most important traditions, established during the 1890’s, of inspiration from the stage. The commemorative miniature recreates the flamboyant rococo style of the original study, whilst the beautiful colours and the exquisitely executed floral details on her skirt and blouse are a tribute to the hand painting skills of Royal Doulton’s ceramic artists.
