I have here for sale a book entitled A WONDER-BOOK TANGLEWOOD TALES, AND GRANDFATHER'S CHAIR by NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE published by Kegan Paul, Trench and Company, London, in 1883.  Riverside Edition, released as Volume IV of the Complete Works of Nathaniel Hawthorne, in 12 volumes, with introductory notes by George Lathrop and illustrated with etchings by Blum, Church, Dielman, Gifford, Shirlaw and Turner.  Here we have a collection of works by American novelist and short story writer Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) including "A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys", first published in 1851, in which the author retells several Greek myths, and its sequel "Tanglewood Tales", first published in 1853.  "Grandfather's Chair" was first published in 1840.  The book contains a full-page etching on the frontispiece.

Brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  Minor marks on the boards with bumping to the top and bottom of the spine.  Bookplates on the front endpapers.  Slight yellowing to borders of pages with light foxing to a few pages.  Front hinge partially cracked but all pages are firm and the book is in very good condition.  637 pages.  20 x 13 cm.
