Isabel Canovas is widely renowned as a designer of highly sought after costume jewelry and accessories from the 1980s and ‘90s. Canovas was not known for designing apparel, and an actual garment designed by her is extremely rare, although this 1980s cashmere sweater dress is very much in keeping with her whimsical accessory designs with its statement sleeves and corset belt. The dress itself is accompanied by a wide corset belt in green silk taffeta overlain with cut-out black velvet. It closes on the side with hooks. The dress can be worn with or without the belt to create two distinctive looks, one even more elevated than the other. The dress is labeled French size M. Measurements of the dress and corset taken together indicate that it is indeed closest to a modern size 6-8, or Medium, depending on your waist size.
