Stockholm has a very large archipelago with many islands. In very hard winters the people on these islands had no post via regular ship lines. In February 1946 they were sent for the first time post by airplane and dropped by parachute to about 20 islands in the archipelago. This is one of the covers. Another drop was in April 1946. There are probably no more than 10 to 15 covers from the 1946 era.

Subsequently in the winter of 1947-48 small airplanes were landing on the ice and much later helicopters.

Stamp and cover are sound except as noted above.
