Confederate States of America House Bill No. 7, read before their House of Representatives May 3, 1864 detailing provisions to lay additional taxes for the "common defence [sic] and support of the Government."

Property on which taxes will be levied include land or real estate, shares or interest held in any joint stock company, plus gold and silver coin, gold dust or gold or silver bullion.

Section 1 also states that taxes shall be paid on any slave or slaves in possession. "Said slave or slaves shall be assessed on the basis of the market value of the same, or similar property...."
