This auction is for a comical, original Norman Thelwell fat pony cartoon book plate taken from a disbound 1965 First Edition copy of Riding Academy.

This is a genuine vintage print (not a modern reproduction).

The condition is very good with no foxing or stains.  It is ideal for matting and framing to make a very interesting and unique piece for any horse or pony lover!

Norman Thelwell (1923-2004) was an English cartoonist best known for his humorous illustrations of ponies and horses.  He was born in Birkenhead in the North West of England and became a contributor to the satirical magazine Punch in 1952, a relationship which yielded over 1500 cartoons!

Known to many simply as Thelwell, he found his true comic niche with pony club girls and their comic ponies, a subject for which he became best-known.
