The Platinum American Eagle was first minted in 1997 and it is the only investment-grade Platinum coin made by the U.S. Mint. The 2004 half-ounce Platinum Eagle dropped by nearly 25% when compared to the previous year. Platinum is a very soft metal that can scratch easily and is sometimes hard to get perfect grades of 70, especially with lower mintages. Only 101 pieces have received the perfect grade of 70 by PCGS. The obverse and reverse are perfectly struck which captivates the eye. This is a beautiful example and is a key date to any collection.
