1.05 g of dry root extract of Amorphophallus konjac with min 95% glucomannan;
Other ingredients: instant coffee powder, soy milk.
What is glucomannan?
Glucomannan
is a hydro-solubilizing fiber obtained from the roots of the Cognac
(Amorphophallus konjac) plant, whose structure is composed of D-mannose
and D-glucose units in the ratio of 1.6: 1. This polysaccharide swells
in the presence of water, increasing its volume by up to 200 times its
initial volume.
How does it work?
The mechanism of action
of glucomannan is based on the fact that in the presence of water it
swells, forming a gel structure. In this way it contributes to a slower
gastric emptying, creating a feeling of satiety over a long period of
time, which results in reduced food intake (calories) throughout the day
and preventing overeating. Also, glucomannan contributes to the
reduction of total and LDL cholesterol. The mechanism of action is based
on the reduction of intestinal resorption of cholesterol, as well as
the stimulation of its transformation into bile acids, which are further
excreted from the body.
Currently, glucomannan is the only
substance for which an approved health statement for weight loss by the
European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is available.
