DESCRIPTION:
Vintage Ortega's of Chimayo, New Mexico 100% all wool hand woven poncho/vest. The sides are slit all the way and fasten with a single braided leather button on each side. One braided leather button in front. Beige wool with southwest geometric medallions in red, blue, black and gray - 2 on the front and one on back. Ivory satin hem around the collar and on all vertical edges.
This was purchased from an older Native American woman in Arizona who said it was her fathers' vest, so I would guess this dates to the 1970's or possibly earlier. There is no size tag, so please check the actual measurements below, as we do not accept returns. I am a male and am 5'8" and weigh 165 and normally wear a size Large - this vest is too small for me to button, so I would guess it is a men's size small.
Approx. measurements with vest buttoned and lying flat:
Chest: 17” from side slit to side slit across the center of the geometric medallions
Bottom Hem: 19 1/2” from side slit to side slit across the bottom hem
Length: 25" down the front from top of shoulder seam to bottom hem
The vest is in very good condition. No holes or worn areas, and no odors. I did find a couple of very faint, small spots (see last picture for the worst one near the button on front), so you may want to have this dry cleaned.
