ABOUT THE ARTIST
Desmond Monroe was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1943. He has had a keen interest in drawing and painting from his early life. After spending more than 30 years honing his craft and developing his style, Monroe became a professional painter in 1993.
He was an award winning artist in a province wide competition sponsored by Morgan Newspapers, a past Chairman of Carrickfergus Art club and was an art lecturer at Newtownabbey Campus. His paintings are in the private collections of Wiggins Teape, the Department of the Environment and Belfast International Airport.
Primarily a landscape painter, Monroe's recent work sees him drawn to more figurative works, and the figures of these works lack facial detail but painted in bold strokes with rich colouring.
His work demonstrates an uncanny ability to capture the ever-changing mood of the Irish Landscape, while his more contemporary style adds a thought provoking dimension to his portfolio. His popularity has steadily grown over the years, and his work is in high demand and his works are held in public and private collections throughout the island of Ireland, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Kenya and the USA.
