Brand new-Other -in the box Walthers Trainline HO scale Alco FA-1 powered.  Never out of box except for photo.  When I opened it, I found the plastic carbody was damaged on the B-end. It's strange, because I've never seen such damage where the chassis didn't shift inside the model, especially when it was packed in the original box.  See photos.  Perhaps a little touchup paint could solve the problem.  DC. Runs OK, nothing to write home about.  No wheel wear and no broken axle gears. Headlight works.  Appears to have some "Zinc Pest" in the chassis which caused it to expand and crack the shell.   I thought this went away in the 60's. I guess I was wrong.  All packaging and literature included in their place.  Priced accordingly good for parts.  Motor, trucks, driveline and maybe the shell are reusable.  Tragic since it is brand new! Or-buy my FB trainman listing with no signs of “zinc pest” or swelling for short money and combine the two.

I come to find out that after some research, these Walthers locomotives are highly prone to zinc, pest, or zinc rot as it is sometimes referred. There’s a lot of information on the Internet about this problem. I find it simply astonishing that Walthers has turned its back on customers who have purchased these locomotives. They have never made a replacement frame available for purchase and just like the Proto 2000 axle gear issue, they have just turned their back on their loyal customers. I guess you realize by now I don’t like Walthers very much. OK sorry about that, rant off for now.

YOUR ITEM WILL BE PACKED AND PADDED IN NEW BOXES AND VIRGIN MATERIALS THE WAY WE LIKE OUR TRAINS TO SHOW UP, AND OFTEN DON'T.  I'M NOT SENDING YOUR TRAIN IN LAST NIGHT'S PAPA JOHN'S SAUSAGE  AND EXTRA CHEESE PIZZA BOX TO BE SURE!   It may be funny now, but not when it's your trains that come to you that way!!!

A note about our packaging:  We only use new boxes or cardboard.  All packaging materials and Kraft box tape are renewable and recyclable. Plastic in disposable packaging is just wrong for trains.  I despise packing peanuts, so there's that too.

We only charge actual cost of shipping from the carrier.  No mark-ups on shipping to make up for an artificially low selling price to pull you in.  We hate that game.  I bet you do too.

If you want shipping insurance on you item, please let me know.  We don't automatically provide it but can add it to the cost for you if you would like coverage.  Tracking information is provided when we ship the item.

We adhere to the 3 day shipping window since as much as we wish this were a full-time job, it's not. We will make sure your item gets out on-time and exceed your expectations. Because the German government is making inbound shipping/packaging paperwork and record keeping onerous, we sadly can't ship there or to the other places we know to be risky.  We hope you understand. Thank You from us and thank you for supporting our family business.
