The phonograph was the predecessor of the phonograph invented by Thomas Edison in 1877. The sound was recorded using a diamond needle on a cylinder and reproduced in the same way.

Phonographs were replaced by the invention of the gramophone record (shellac) and the possibility of recording it electrically.

The last device for playing rollers was produced in 1929.

The roller is very delicate.
