A unique original cartoon drawn by the artist William “Bill” Hewison (1925-2002). The illustration shows caricatures of the characters in a production of “The Maids”, a play staged at the Donmar Warehouse starring Niamh Cusack. The cartoon was drawn in 1997 for The Times newspaper, and is signed bottom right in Hewison's own hand in ink. This superbly detailed drawing is on paper measuring approximately 38cm x 28cm. Hewison was Art Editor of Punch magazine for over 25 years, and contributed cartoons and theatre drawings to Punch magazine, The Times newspaper, The Oldie, The Spectator, and multiple other publications during a period spanning the 1960s through to his death in 2002. He was a recognised and respected artist of the finest quality, and his work is extremely collectable.
