I have here for sale a book entitled A COMPREHENSIVE GRAMMAR OF SACRED GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY; FOR THE USE OF SCHOOLS AND FOR PRIVATE TUITION, WITH MAPS, VIEWS, COSTUMES &c by William Pinnock, first edition, published by Samuel Holdsworth, London, 1836. This book contains four distinct sections: Geographical Chapters, Biblical Memoranda, Historical Memoranda and Biblical Biography. Contains 3 maps, in black and white, each of which is torn down the folded seams but otherwise in good condition. The maps are as follows: Canaan, A Map of the Countries to the Eastward of Canaan, and A Map of the Countries Travelled by the Apostles. There are four illustrative plates, each displaying 3 images.

The first plate shows Garden of Eden, The Deluge and The Tower of Babel. The second plate shows Joseph Sold by his Brethren, Pharaoh's Host Drowned, and Samson pulling down the Temple. The third plate shows Moses Striking the Rock, Jonah Cast into the Sea, and Daniel in the Den of Lions. The fourth plate shows The Nativity of Christ, The Crucifixion, and The Conversion of Saul. There are 2 pages of portraits of philosophers, including Eusebius and Bede. There is one frontispiece, showing an old-fashioned clock (I think this would have had a dial, as the string is still attached, but the dial is missing).

William Pinnock was a publisher/printseller and an author of educational (historical) books. In 1817, he went to London and, in partnership with Samuel Maunder, began to publish educational works.
