Up for bid is a vintage modernist Blackinton sterling and
enamel top glass mustard pot with a base by Hawkes. The piece is 2 inches tall
by 2 3/8 inches in diameter. The mustard ladle is 3 ¼ inches long, and the
spoon and lid together weigh 25 grams. The
lid has a silver knob finial and a cutout for the ladle. The lid and spoon handle are decorated with white
guilloche enamel with gold floral highlights.
The lid interior and ladle bowl are gilded. It has not been monogrammed. The glass base has etched floral decoration
around the sides. The lid and ladle are marked
“STERLING” with the Blackinton trademark.
The lid is also marked “6794”.
The glass base has an etched “HAWKES” trademark.
Condition on the jar is fairly good. There is some enamel damage at the lower end
of the ladle handle, as shown. The lid
and the glass seem to be fine. A nice
piece by two fine producers.
