He Chaozong was a ceramicist in the early 1600s during the Ming Dynasty, famous for being China's golden age of art, when things were of the highest quality.

Unlike so many artists who are only revered when they are gone, He Chaozong had earned a considerable reputation even within his own lifetime.

He Chaozong is known for long flowing robes in his pieces.

Although He Chaozong was a ceramicist, he did produce a few bronzes that are rare. Further still, the large standing Qian Yin statues being extremely rare among these bronzes.

Later, in the Qing Dynasty, there was a He Chaozong revival. These wares were made by Su Xuejin 1869-1919. He recreated pieces in the manner of He Chaozong famously to a degree that they are indistinguishable from the originals, and Su Xuejin is respected in his own right.

It is hard to tell the Ming Dynasty pieces from the Qing Dynasty ones unless you are an expert, as they all have the same mark. But eventually pieces were made honestly by having two marks on them so it was able to do so. They had the Dehua gourd seal and the He Chaozong square seal on them.

With He Chaozong revival pieces, as before, few bronzes were produced, so they are rare.

This is a He Chaozong revival piece of one of these large standing Qian Yin statues.

Qian Yin is in the pose of just having reached enlightenment. She has stood up from sitting in the lotus position, her eyes beginning to open, ready to teach the world.

She stands on a lotus flower on waves.

In her left hand she has a willow branch, symbolizing flexibility and unbreakable strength. In her right hand is the pearl of everlasting light, given by the Dragon King for saving his son's life. Qian Yin could read scriptures with it at any time of day.

Qian Yin is believed to have been a real person. A princess a thousand years ago. This is why she wears a necklace of Indian and Chinese royalty.

On her crown is the image of Amitabha (Fully conscious infinite light) Buddha. Her teacher.
