Ferdinand II (1578-1637) was a member of the House of Habsburg. He was Archduke of Austria from June 10, 1590 to his death, King of Bohemia from June 5, 1617 to August 26, 1619 then from November 9, 1620 to his death, and King of Hungary from July 1, 1618 to his death. He was crowned on September 9, 1619, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, over which he reigned from August 28, 1619 until his death. The entirety of his reign was occupied by the Thirty Years' War, of which he was one of the main protagonists.
He is the son of Archduke Charles II of Styria and Marie-Anne of Bavaria, respectively son and granddaughter of Ferdinand I.
