"Bloodbath" (complete 2-part 1993 DC miniseries) #1, 2. Near mint condition!!

"Bloodbath: Where Bloodlines End" was a 2-part miniseries, which were the anchor stories for the massive 1993 Bloodlines crossover event. This lot contains both issues, #1 & 2 published in December 1993 by DC Comics. Both are polybagged, boarded, and in near mint condition!!

The "Bloodlines" crossover event involved a number of hungry alien parasites coming to Earth with the intention of feeding on the human spinal fluid. Although the giant and formidable monsters slaughtered many, their feeding also activated the metagene in a number of individuals, leading to a massive wave of new super-powered characters, calling themselves "New Bloods".

Writer: Dan Raspler
Artwork: Chuck Wojtkiewicz, Bill Willingham, Agop Gemdjian, Keith Wilson, Stuart Chaifetz

Synopsis
The United States finally mobilizes against the threat of the Bloodlines Parasites. President Bill Clinton asks the new metahumans empowered by their interactions with the Parasites to register with the government so it can help those with unstable powers and enlist those who are capable to aid against the Parasite threat. Most of the New Bloods, as the new metahumans are now called, resist, not wanting to be on a government list. Amanda Waller is enlisted to lead a confederation of heroes against the Parasites. Meanwhile, the Parasites continue to expel their victims’ spinal fluid into a giant hidden birth chamber. Within the chamber is a creature they call the Taker, a giant Parasite, who will give birth to Parasites larvae, continuing the life cycle of the creatures and spelling doom for Earth and beyond. The heroes search for the birth chamber but cannot locate it. Soon, however, they capture the Parasite Glonth. Martian Manhunter shapeshifts into one of the Parasites and appears to Glonth. Manhunter tells Glonth that the heroes have used their powers to wipe his memory of the location of the birth chamber and fools Glonth into revealing the location. However, when the heroes go there, leaving Glonth lightly guarded, the Parasites free him. The confederation of heroes reaches the massive underground complex created to house the birth chamber. As they enter, Flash notices that many New Bloods have come to the complex as well. He wonders how they found it independently from the heroes. The heroes enter the complex. Meanwhile, the Parasites have secretly returned to the complex making their way to the birth chamber. The heroes fight the Parasites but are surprised to see the Parasites sacrifice themselves to the Taker. Unbeknownst to the heroes, the final step in awakening the Taker is the sacrifice of a sufficient number of Parasites. This is why they needed Glonth. When they do so, the Taker awakens. When the heroes attempt to attack it, they learn the Taker gives off a paralysis-field, causing anyone near it to experience a sort of psychic drain. Superman leaves the others in hopes of getting help.

Bloodbath Vol 1 #2 - December, 1993

Writer: Dan Raspler
Artwork: Sal Velluto, Val Semeiks, Jeff Albrecht, Dell Barras, Tom McWeeney, Stuart Chaifetz

Synopsis
The Taker erupts from the underground complex housing its birth chamber, destroying the complex, and seemingly killing all the heroes within. The giant creature heads off toward Metropolis to feed. Meanwhile, Superman finds Flash with several New Bloods, the new metahumans empowered by their interactions with the Bloodlines Parasites. Superman tells Flash and the others of the heroes’ sacrifice and the Taker’s paralysis-field. Flash learns how the New Bloods found the location of the Taker birth chamber. They reveal that the New Bloods had begun to feel a call from both the Taker and other New Bloods. They guess that, when the Parasites fed their spinal fluid to the Taker, it created some sort of link between each of the New Bloods and between the New Bloods and the Taker. The New Bloods agree to help fight the creature and Superman welcomes their help. Superman sends Flash off to follow the creature. As he follows it, he sees that it is expelling a tentacle laden appendage in its wake. Flash soon finds several New Bloods and a comatose Amanda Waller. When Waller awakens, they figure out that she was a victim of the creature’s paralysis-field, but that the New Bloods are immune. The New Bloods fight the Taker as it continues toward Metropolis. When Nightblade is seemingly killed, the New Bloods are enraged and fight even harder. However, their efforts are only able to hurt the Taker, not defeat it. Meanwhile, Flash learns that the Taker’s tentacle laden appendage is actually a sort of stomach, and it contains the heroes that were believed to have died in the destruction of the Parasite’s complex. Meanwhile, Superman learns that the Taker’s tentacle laden appendage is burrowing tentacles into the earth, feeding off the Earth’s resources. Realizing the Taker is getting its nourishment from not just the people it is devouring, but also from the Earth, he manages to destroy the feeding tentacles. Meanwhile, Flash has enlisted several New Bloods to help liberate the heroes in the Taker’s stomach. They are successful in freeing many of the heroes. L.E.G.I.O.N. arrives hoping to aid the heroes against the Parasites. Superman returns and tells the New Bloods that they need a plan. Joe Public steps forward and tells the others that he has noticed that when more than one of the New Bloods use their powers together, their powers become more powerful. He thinks that if they all work together, the effect should be multiplied. Anima adds that she has the ability to absorb energy and pump it into her Animus, the creature she can summon. She thinks she can do the same using Joe Public’s energy absorbing powers. Joe Public begins to absorb the powers of the other New Bloods and Anima directs them from him into her Animus. Anima’s Animus takes on a gestalt form with features of the other New Bloods. It grows to a titanic size and confronts the Taker. The two titans clash and, with the combined powers of the New Bloods, Anima is able to defeat the Taker. Soon, they realize the Taker is not dead, merely unconscious. Before it can awaken, the heroes take the creature and throw it into the sun where it perishes. After the Taker is defeated, it is revealed that Nightblade survived, with his regenerative powers healing a broken neck. On the L.E.G.I.O.N. ship, Vril Dox and Lobo wonder if perhaps other Parasites escaped the rift into this universe. Pax states that, for the sake of everyone, he hopes not; The destruction of one universe, his universe, is enough.
