A beautiful vintage Crinoline Lady & Garden Tea Set by J Fryer & Son England. The set was made around the 1940's to 1950's. The set consists of five plates, five cups and saucers and a milk jug. The set is decorated with an all over design of gold leaves on a cream background with a colourful Crinoline Lady in garden motif. The set is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks and no crazing. There is some minor age related wear to the gilding. The Cups have a base diameter of 4.3cm and a rim diameter of 8.5cm. The Saucers have a diameter of 14.3cm and the plates have a diameter of 17.9cm. The Milk Jug is 7cm tall with a diameter of 10.5cm at its widest point (not including spout). The Plates and saucers are stamped J Fryer & Son, the Cups are marked England and the Milk Jug is marked J Fryer & Son Tunstall England.

Of interest is that the items are over stamped with the J Fryer & Son mark, this is because when James Fryer started his small factory in 1920 no items were manufactured instead he purchased whiteware from other manufacturers and then decorated it. The business name was changed to J Fryer & Son in 1945. The buying in of whiteware continued until 1955 when it was stopped as the Factory produced it's own merchandise. The factory did not produce any items between 1939 and 1945 (WWII) as it was used as a storage area for the War effort.
