‘Have nothing in your houses that you do
not consider to be beautiful or useful.’
William Morris
An iconic piece of tableware from the French Art
Deco period – the 1930’s - that graced family sideboards: the lidded biscuit
box on its mirror tray.
This one is composed of a round glass box with
fluted sides and an aluminum lid, presented on a round mirror tray with
aluminum framing and a double-know handle on each side.
The glass box measures 6 inches in diameter and is 3
inches high. There is a very small chip on the side of one of the flutes,
invisible when set on the tray.
The set measures 4 ½ inches from the base to the top
of the lid and is 9 ¼ inches wide from the exterior of the handles, with minor
traces of use and a few pinprick spots on the mirror. Solidly made, it weighs 2
lbs.
The size and shape of this set not only be used for
biscuits and bonbons, but also as an ice bucket on a period bar.
