Vintage Van Briggle Art Pottery Pitcher Mulberry matte crisscross 3" Tall

This small vintage Van Briggle pitcher/vase is 3inches tall,3 inches wide and has a deep spout.  Itis glazed inside and outside to protect it from moisture.  It is sturdy and slightly heavy for its size.  Most Van Briggle pottery has a two-step coloring process. It begins with a main color over the body, in this case, Maroon, then a highlight color, here, Dark Blue is applied over the top. We see it generally referred to as “Mulberry”.  It is in excellent vintage condition, no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing.  It has a variable fanning lattice/diamond pattern on its shoulder. There is light flaking of the “varnish” on the bottom which is common for its age.

This Van Briggle Pottery pitcher/vase was made in Colorado Springs, Colorado sometime after 1948 by the Van Briggle artist Fred Wills, Master Potter from 1948 to his retirement in 1998.  The hand carved stamp on the bottom was made by an “incision artist” who marked the artist’s finished products before fired.

This little Mulberry pitcher will make a cute addition to your Van Briggle collection, or a great vase for a small plant.
