Japanese Yamanaka Lacquerware Pen / Brush Box Decorated With Grapevine.

The box is 21.5 cm long by 8 cm wide and 3 cm deep. It was made at Yamanaka, Japan, one of three major laquerware producing regions, dating back 400 years. It has a maker's mark which translates as 'Sho Ho' and the decoration is entitled 'budo' or 'vine'.

The box is about 20 years old and is in very good condition apart from a little wear on one edge of the lid and a small slightly discoloured spot (please see last three photographs).
