Description

A SUPERB VINTAGE CARVED WOODEN TABERNACLE PICTURE FRAME ~

... an interesting double frame,
probably Anglo-Indian or Oriental in origin, a most ornate Tabernacle shape with a double aperture, designed to hold & display a pair of photographic images ~ almost like two balconies in an ornate mini-temple, a super-solid construction, an interesting & unusual high-quality piece ~

* I may still have (OR be able to offer) antique glass & backing for this frame ~ If you would like these included with your purchase at NO EXTRA COST then please get in touch, DM us before we ship OR leave a personal message in the buyer's notes ~
** Even though we wrap ALL of our frames very well, we can't 100% guarantee the glass in transit ~

Measuring approximately 11 & 1/4" by 9(External) ~
With a rebate (to fit two pictures) of 7 & 1/2" by 5" ~
Or, in centimetres 19cm by 13cm (Internal) ~
Each sight size is approx 3 & 3/8" by 2 & 5/8" ~

... a superb & unusual carved wooden picture frame of excellent construction & carving ~ the shape is tabernacle in design, so, we have a temple carved in miniature in an exotically carved wood ~

... that's how it comes across to me but what I also find rather attractive is that it has two apertures, each has an oriental 'S-shaped ogee' OR 'pointed Cinquefoil Arch' aperture which reveals itself to be an archway of a door or a window & so I believe that this frame was specifically designed to hold two photographs, no doubt of a loving couple or perhaps the whole design is symbolic in some way ~

... not entirely sure of the age or the wood type OR indeed the country of origin but I would say Anglo-Indian or Chinese, for this reason, I have taken plenty of photos so you can make up your own mind, I would say possibly a type of pine that perhaps has been stained to look like teak OR Mahogany, alas I am NO expert ~ It's a deep frame with a depth of over 2" & has a really interesting construction, built up in a way a bit like what we refer to as 'tramp-art' so lots of segments have been pieced together in an incredibly convoluted fashion ~

... the carving is exceptional, with the shapely apertures having their own mini-handrails, these are quite thin & delicate, amazing that they have survived so well & there are various columns to the other side & the top of the frame extend upwards & outwards, and all these various carved sections joining in unison & together the result is just fantastic visually there is carving to every section of this frame it is a real feat of woodworking design ~ An extremely solid frame it feels good & solid in the hand, age-wise I am thinking more vintage then antique, maybe 1930s, perhaps later, it makes no difference, there is very little if any damage/wear so perhaps not as old as it might seem, but it is just fabulous quality & I could see this frame working effectively in a variety of decorative settings ~

This frame will suit a special picture OR perhaps some images of loved ones; it is certainly a frame that will grace any wall ~
Thank you for looking ~
Any questions please ask ~

Clients in the U.S.Canada & Australia ... We combine shipping on multiple items but if the shipping seems a little 'high' then this is because this may well be quite a large frame etc & as you will know shipping prices have shot up recently, however, until this frame is wrapped, measured & then weighed we will NOT know the exact postage costs, I tend to guess on the high side BUT it may well come in at less than is quoted here in which case I will refund the difference BUT this is not always guaranteed; it is NOT our intention to make anything on the shipping ~
Customers lucky enough to be living in the extremities of the U.K., such as the Highlands & Islands or Cornwall or on any Island, IOMIOWScilly IslesChannel Islands etc or Northern Ireland, please note that shipping may cost a bit extra, please get in touch for an estimated quote before bidding, Thank You ~

For your information

* I, or rather, we, my partner Jo & I, try to find the most interesting picture frames that we possibly can, frames not just of excellent design quality, but also beguiling & captivating frames that are quirky & have that extra bit of character, be they Contemporary OR classic Oak, ostentatious Louis XV / Rococo gilt / glamorous Art-Deco pieces OR simply incredible carved Arts & Crafts one-offs ~ We reject 95% of the frames we see based on design OR condition ~ Many of the 'high-end' Interiors glossy magazines (World of Interiors Architectural Digest / Elle Decoration et al) have been promoting antique frame ‘feature-walls’ for many years now ~
*A group of frames on a wall can be a great conversation-starter & so we aim to bring as many quirky, top-notch antique & repro frames onto eBay at any one time to present plenty of choice ~

** All of our antique frames will  have some form of age commensurate wear, most of our frames are not reproductions & so there will be slight imperfections e.g. the odd ding OR light scratch etc, after all, this is the very essence of owning an antique frame ~ Please, always refer to the detailed photos, they are an accurate reflection of the antique condition ~

*** Each frame has been carefully stripped down of its backing & cleaned using professional materials - The back of the frame is then meticulously tidied of any loose impediments, nails, splinters, dust, glass OR any other abrasions ~ Where necessary, the border is then treated with a high-quality bees-wax and buffed vigorously, giving the wood a fresh lustre and sheen leaving you the customer with effectively a moderately refurbished frame ~ Some frames, depending on size, may be available with glass so please enquire about this before we ship ~

* We can combine shipping whenever possible ~

** New stock that is new to the market is listed every week ~

**** Any easels/props used in the photos are not included in the sale ~

**** Unless specifically mentioned in the above listing description this frame will not have glass OR a backing, couriers simply will NOT cover for breakage ~ New glass, however, OR, a distressed mirror glass can easily be sourced from a local glazier OR picture framer & will generally cost in most cases no more than a few pounds ~ I do, however, keep a large stock of antique glass ~ should you wish to drop by our location in the North-West of England & collect a piece ~ please DM for details ~ TOM
