Rare & collectable medal in the history of Barnet FC. The medal would have been awarded to a player or official of Barnet FC as they finished runners - up to Leytonstone FC in the Final of the 1947 - 48 FA  Amateur Cup, at the time the premier competition for amateur teams in England. The Final was held at Stamford Bridge, London in front of a crowd of 59,605 with Leytonstone winning 1 - 0.

The front of the medal depicts a player in action together with the "Three Lions" Crest & is embossed "AMATEUR CUP".

The obverse is embossed:

"THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. RUNNERS -UP".

NOTE: Although the medal is not personalised, Fattorini & Sons were manufacturing the medals at this time & I have researched the Assay Date Letters/FA Amateur Cup Medal dates as follows: 1945 - 46 = W, 1946 - 47 = X, 1947 - 48 = Y, 1948 - 49 = Z. (The name of the medal recipient is unknown).

The medal comes complete with its moulded presentation case in red leatherette, silk & velvet with the lid gold - embossed "F.A. AMATEUR CUP RUNNERS - UP".

9ct Gold Medal: Weight: 14.2 gm. Diameter: 28 mm. Hall Mark: Birmingham 1948 (date letter Y). Maker's Mark: Fattorini & Sons.

Barnet FC: In the club's long history they have only been involved in three FA  Amateur Cup Finals. They won the trophy for the one & only time in the season 1945 - 46 and were runners up in 1947 - 48 (the medal for sale) & in 1958 - 59. Consequently FA Amateur Cup medals relating to the club are very scarce.

Summary: As can be seen from the photos this is a rare & collectable medal, particularly of course to anyone connected to Barnet FC. Good luck!
