We bought this beautiful artwork from an art gallery in London in 1992, framed, exactly as is - it's now vintage. We were told it was one-of-a-kind lithograph OOAK. It was hung at that time in our study (not in the light) and had a wonderfully calming feel which was very appropriate for the room. It was very much admired. (Has since been carefully stored away for decades). In very good condition.

We understood this is one of the world famous Renaissance frescos from the ceiling at 'Mantua Cathedral of Saint Peter' (Cattedrale di San Pietro Apostolo di Mantova in Italian) in Lombardy Italy, by the 15th century Italian artist Andrea Mantegna (son-in law of Bellini). It depicts the ArchAngel Uriel (Auriel/Oriel) - the angel of wisdom/light....hence the quill ready in hand. Mantegna's work is on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris and the National Gallery in London.

Mantua is famous for being the city which Romeo, of Shakespeare's 'Romeo & Juliet', lives in when he is banished from Verona, and the city is mentioned in Shakespeare's 'The Two Gentleman of Verona'. Mantova was on the 'grand tour' for English gentleman visiting Renaissance Italy, being a cultural hub of the time with one of the largest palaces in Europe. (It is the seat of the Diocese of Mantova).

Lovely soft colours. Mounted with a marble effect border, with a very impressive ornate wood backed frame in antique gold colour. Acrylic glazing on front. With original gallery fitting on the back, ready to hang.

I would much prefer collection from SW London for this item. Or, you could organise your own professional 'man with a van' - Ebay recommends a few such companies eg shiply/uship) – which would be more economical than a courier.
