A SCARCE 1d RED KANGAROO: PREVIOUSLY 'UNLOCATED CONSTANT VARIETY’ (UCV17) NOW PLATED BY ADAMS AT BL47 - “BREAK IN LINE 4 ABOVE Y OF PENNY WITHOUT THE STATE TWO CONDITION BREAK IN LINE 2 ABOVE TASMANIA” -  ADAMS, BELL & POPE SCARCITY LEVEL 5
The definitive reference for the 1d Red Kangaroo stamp by David Adams, Bill Bell and Greg Pope entitled 1d RED KANGAROO AND MAP SERIES (2004) states that: "The Unlocated Constant Varieties (UCV) are flaws or varieties where more than two identical clichés have been found to exist but have not been plated". In all, Adams, Bell & Pope list 100 UCVs in the Reference. Since the Reference was published, some UCVs have subsequently been 'Plated' and other UCV have been found (another 25 or so)… Mr David Adams advises the following changes to the current UCV listings:

UCV 17 is now plated as BL47 - DAVID adds: "Late printings only & second state not always present".
UCV 22 is from the 5th Column.
UCV 33 is KR42.
UCV 59 is BL29 (90% sure). Add to description: Colour dot by Y of PENNY, between shading lines 5 & 6 up from bottom frame. Semi-circular flaw not always present.
UCV 72 is BL45 so now reads as follows:
BL45 First State (Scarcity 5):
(a) Shading right of Cape York: Break in line 1 above, 3.75mm from right frame.
BL45 Second State (Scarcity 7):
(a) As before.
(b) Small colour dot adjoins the north Tasmanian coast.
BL45 Third State (Scarcity 4):
(a) As before.
(b) As before.
(c) Coast at Cape Leveque:  0.5mm break in coast, 4.5mm to 5.00mm from left frame.
UCV 82 is questionable?
UCV 83 is HL51.
UCV 86 is GR33.
UCV 91 is GL10.
UCV 96 is GL4 &
UCV 98 is GR7.

UCV17 (Scarcity 5) NOW BL47:
FIRST STATE (Scarcity 5):
(a) Shading above 'Y' of PENNY: break in line 4, 2.75mm from right frame. Late printings only.
SECOND STATE (Scarcity 5) Not Always Present:
(a) As above.
(b) Shading above Tasmania: break in line 2, 2.5mm from right frame.

This UCV17 (NOW BL47) is a very nice example of the FIRST STATE of the variety WITHOUT the additional Break in Line 2 Above and Right of Tasmania. Adams assigns a SCARCITY LEVEL of 5 to this marsupial. This is only the second, STATE 1 BL47 that I have listed in many thousands of Kangaroo listings. The reference scans are from David's outstanding work on our reds (WHICH IS NOW AVAILABLE AT DANMAGPIE'S 'BUY-IT-NOW' LISTINGS).
