Ultracapacitors are the technology of choice for high energy/power applications because of their long operating lifetime, low maintenance requirements, and superior cold weather performance when compared to batteries.

Since Ultrcapacitor /Supercapacitors have a much higher rapid charge and discharge capability than batteries they are generally used in parallel to maintain system voltage during high current conditions which greatly extends the life of batteries.

Ultracapacitor are discharged after testing using high wattage resistors. Afterwards a shorting cable is installed for storage and shipping. Ultracapacitors have an unlimited shelf life when stored in a discharged state. Before installation remove the shorting wire. Due to high current capability of Ultracapacitors they should be discharged using a high wattage resistor or alternately using a low voltage/high wattage bulb.
