The publication catalogs and describes a broad selection of Japanese sword mounts acquired by the Field Museum from collections made by Edward Greey and Frank Gunsaulus (the author's father).  Helen Gunsaulus was Assistant Curator of Japanese Ethnology at the Field Museum when she wrote this major work.  Many of the swords-mounts were acquired after the 1876 edict that forbade samurai from wearing two swords. The various schools of sword fitting artistry are described and are listed in the Table of Contents (see images) and there is an index of signatures on the mounts.

A very useful publication for any collector and those interested in Japanese artistry.
