I read a review that panned this recording because it sounded like CTI Records. That is why I love this record because it has a Bob James, Deodato Groove.

The Mean Machine is an album by American jazz organist Jimmy McGriff recorded in 1976 and released on the Groove Merchant label.

James Harrell McGriff (April 3, 1936 – May 24, 2008) was an American hard bopand soul-jazz organist and organ trio bandleader.

Joseph Samuel Thomas (May 31, 1933 - July 26, 2017) was an American jazz flutist and occasional saxophonist.

Cornell Luther Dupree (December 19, 1942 – May 8, 2011) was an American jazzand R&B guitarist. He worked at various times with Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway, King Curtis, and Steve Gadd, appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, and wrote a book on soul and blues guitar, Rhythm and Blues Guitar. He reportedly recorded on 2,500 sessions.
