This
poster of the Compagnie maritime des Chargeurs reunions was
produced around 1950 by Albert Brenet to promote tourism in
France.
It depicts Paris and “the Iron Lady”/the Eiffel
Tower, as well as Parisian women shopping in flower shops
overlooked by Haussmannian buildings.
Albert Brenet is a
French painter, poster designer and illustrator. In 1936, he was
appointed painter of the Navy and painter of the Air, then painter
of the Armies in 1959. He traveled the seas of the world on
different ships making sketches, oil paintings, gouaches, ships,
ports but also scenes from the life of the crews.
Chargeurs
Réunis, a French steam navigation company, was founded in Le
Havre in 1872. In 1898, its fleet included 35 boats, they mainly
linked Le Havre to the west coast of Africa, Brazil, Argentina and
New York.
