Outstanding impressionist oil on canvas painting of the Orthodox Church in Hoszow, Poland, by listed Polish/American artist Halina Kaminska Anneski (1907/8-2004). Kaminska was a widely known stage and movie actress in Poland before emigrating to the United States following the death of her first husband during the Warsaw Uprising in World War II. Born in September 17, 1919, Warsaw Poland, Halina Kaminska Anneski was born into a family of theatrical performers.  Her father was the Director of Warsaw Opera and her mother was a professional actress.  Halina studied acting and was well know in Warsaw as an actress performing in many productions before Poland was invaded by Germany in WWII.

Halina attended private schools and the Polish University in Warsaw.  Halina escaped from Poland after the invasion, but her beloved younger brother murdered in Poland during the resistance.  She fled to Italy where she was incarcerated in a camp.  She met her husband, Peter, who was in the U.S. Army and helped free her from the camp.  They married shortly after they met and moved to NYC.  Halina and her husband, Peter lived in NYC for three years.  There Halina painted and sculpted and attended art schools in NYC.

Peter and Halina, where transferred to Memphis, Tennessee, where they spent several years.  During this time Halina attended the Academy of Fine Arts, in Memphis.  There she developed her skill as a sculptor and painter and furthered her career as an artist.  From Memphis they moved to Haddonfield, New Jersey, where Halina continued her art and sculptor education at the Fleisher Memorial Art School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Through the years Halina made several trips to France, England, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Egypt, painting scenes of villages and buildings in these country's cities and hamlets.  She worked from many sketches and drawings to create her painting and watercolors of theses area that she had visited on many extensive trips.

In 1990 she returned to Warsaw, Poland and had an extensive show of her paintings.  The exhibition of her paintings were well received by the by the people of Poland.

Halina has been a professional artist and sculptor since the late 1940's.  She painted and sculptor since the late 1940's.  She painted and sculpted till she lost her sight in the late 1990's.  Halina died on June 6, 2004 in Haddonfield, New Jersey.

This oil on canvas, likely done during her travels to Europe following the war, is signed lower left. It is also signed verso and titled "Cerkiew w Hoszowie" (Orthodox Church in Hoszow). It measures 21.75" x 17.75" and is in good condition. Framed as shown.
