The Step Baffle deflector, also known as the ?ramp? It looks like a staircase step, which goes from the tip rail to the chamber, forming an internal ramp. The higher height of the deflector makes the speed of the air column faster, creating a sound with many high frequencies, popularly known as a "bright" sound. This type of baffle has the best projection of all baffle shapes. A Step baffle is necessary for most saxophonists who play R&B and Rock and Roll, to stand out from the rest of the band when playing solos.

ADAPTATION

In general, it is an easy-to-adapt mouthpiece, however use by beginner and/or intermediate saxophonists may require a period of adaptation to the embouchure, due to its medium opening, especially for saxophonists not accustomed to this opening pattern.

Saxophonists not accustomed to mouthpieces with a high ramp/deflector may also need a period of adaptation to the embouchure and air column. This is normal, as this type of mouthpiece requires a faster and more compact air column, as it will produce a sound with projection and brightness.
