Vintage Colin Kellam Pottery Lamp-base 1970's, shade not included (but could be sold separately)

A Colin Kellam studio stoneware lamp base, of cylindrical form with pierced and iron oxide textured decoration on an oatmeal glazed ground, impressed seal mark, height approx 28cm (38cm with fitting) 13cm diameter.

Behind the work of Colin Kellam lies more than forty years of experience in the making of studio pottery. From the outset his intention has been to produce a range of domestic ware which would fulfil the criteria of practicability, durability and attractiveness at a reasonable price, each piece having its own individuality whilst remaining part of a cohesive whole.

About Colin

After studying sculpture and ceramics at Loughborough College, Colin Kellam went as assistant to Marianne de Trey at Shinners Bridge Pottery, Dartington from 1960 to 1967. Over a seven year period Colin helped produce the standard domestic stoneware of the pottery, whilst at the same time developing his highly individual style and firing the results in his own wood kiln. In 1968 he set up his pottery at the Lion Brewery, Totnes, building a large oil burning kiln (now in its 4th decade). A comprehensive range is produced by Colin and his workforce, including oven-to-tableware, lamp bases, garden pots, large decorated platters and Colin's much sought after and diverse bird, animal and fish sculptures.
