This listing is for a vintage "The Indiana by Martin" alto saxophone. The serial number 39853 (the neck has the matching number). This was a 2nd line, or intermediate level, offering from Martin. It shares many of the same characteristics as the pro models, including the
tone holes, which are soldered in place, rather than extruded from the body tube. They are very thick, with a beveled top. It also has the contoured left hand thumb rest, and adjustable right hand thumb hook. It has the fancy Indian head engraving with a floral pattern that extends onto the bow. Like all Martins, this horn is built like a tank!

This horn is being sold as is for parts or restoration. It is not currently in playing condition and would require a full overhaul to be made playable. It is in overall very good physical condition though. The body looks straight. There are a few minor dings on the bow, but no significant dents. The bow guard has not been pushed in. The rim of the bell has not been bent. A couple key guards are slightly bent, and a couple keyguard feet are very slightly pushed in. The neck has not been pulled down. It has one tiny ping. I see one resoldered post. The strap ring is partially worn through. All of the keys are moving freely and rebounding properly when released. All of the rollers are turning. The lacquer finish is heavily worn, so the brass has tarnished. The pads are old and certainly in need of replacement, along with corks and felts.

This horn comes in its original wood shell case. The case is well worn and a bit musty inside. One of the latches is broken. It will serve to protect the horn for shipment, but you'll probably want something better for once the horn is fixed up.

There is no mouthpiece, and no other accessories included, except for the original metal end plug.
