Welcome to Milkweed Antiques.

This powder compact was a souvenir from the Golden Gate International Exposition that was in San Francisco during 1939-1940. The compact is brushed gold. In a rectangle on the top it states "Golden Gate - cameo of the Golden Gate Bridge and another tower with the water and the setting sun - 1939 World Fair - On San Francisco Bay". The lettering is in gold. The scene is on a gray blue background and is also in gold. This rectangular piece is inset into the top of the compact. The compact has a push button on the front for opening. Inside is a mirror in the lid. There is the original puff/pad. There is another door that has another push type button on the side that opens the compartment for the powder. On the top of this "door" it is impressed "Zell in script - U.S.A.". This compact is 2-3/8" tall with the push button x 2-1/8" wide x 3/8" thick. It is from the 1930s.

This compact was used. There are scratches to the finish. There is a shadow in the mirror from the puff. There is a piece of plastic from the top of the puff missing. Please see my pictures. They help with the description. My price reflects the condition.
