But what then? What had he really gained by all this trouble? What had he brought back from this long and weary journey?
Nothing, you say? Perhaps so; nothing but a charming woman, who, strange as it may appear, made him the happiest of men!
Truly, would you not for less than that make the tour around the world?

Here we offer the first US edition, second-year printing, of perhaps the most dynamic book of the 19th century, Jules Verne's classic, Tour of the World in Eighty Days, published by James R Osgood and Company, Boston, in 1874. The book features gilt-impressed boards, decorative red-dyed text block edge, schooner frontispiece, and red and black-inked title page.

Silk boards are edgeworn, especially at the head and foot of the spine cloth (please see pics.) Front endpapers are reinforced with acid-free saddles at gutter. Excellent hinges.  Original frontispiece tissue bright and intact.  Binding is very tight and square; text pages are very clean, bright, and crisp. 291 pages. Vest-pocket-sized at approximately 6 x 4.5-inches.

This iconic first will make a wonderful addition to your collection or a very thoughtful gift!
