In the 1970s & 1980s, before HBO and Showtime really became a major force, major motion pictures debuted on one of the 3 major networks ABC, CBS or NBC. Each has several "nights at the movies" during the week.

The press photos sent to newspapers and magazines to publicize the film's showing were 9"W x 7"H. They had information printed on the back of the photo as in most cases with NBC or on note paper attached to the back of the photo that ABC favored.
