The pedestal tramp art box, in this case double pedestal, is a distinctly American form, like velvet covered panels are typical on German and European examples. This fine creation was almost certainly overpainted from the original varnish finish to silver, very likely with radiator paint which is now nicely aged. The decorating pyramids are 6 and 7 layers tall. It is lined with hexagonal printed cardstock that has an almost optical illusion effect. Here and there the top, or tip, layer has a small loss to the finish, not obvious and very minor. The top is attached with sturdy metal hinges, also painted silver. The top is also slightly warped. The only easily spotted small damage is seen in photo #16. I am being picky describing these tiny flaws. I don't want a disappointed buyer so I am describing them carefully and thoroughly. You should know, though, that the minute damages, all to top layers, do not detract from its overall excellent appearance. The box stands almost 7" tall, its length is nearly 10" and the depth is around 7". I want to re-emphasize that there is no loss to the wood, only the skin of silver paint on a few high spots. It presents wonderfully. U.S. buyers please. [Boston Primitive]
