- Collectible antique glass bottle from Philadelphia, PA
- This is quite early, no pontil, but the glass is so crude and the embossing is such that anyone who knows about pontilled medicine bottles would flip this bottle over to check the base for a pontil!
- Embossed: "Dr. D Jayne's Expectorant, Philada"
- 7 inches tall
- This bottle has 8 sides when viewed from the base.
- The base measures 1 5/8 x 2 5/8 inches
- No chips, no cracks, moderate inside stains
- Take a look at the photos to see the crudeness of the glass, the stains inside this bottle and this bottle is definitely a candidate to be cleaned on a tumbler!
- This is a very nice item for collectors of Quack Medicines from before the 1906 Pure Food and Drugs Act
- I have no idea what active ingredients were in this product known as it is advertised as an "expectorant."
- Many products that were produced and sold before the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 had some powerful and dangerous ingredients. Numbing pain does not provide a true remedy for an ailment.
- This antique bottle is likely from the late 1890's as the seam ends about half way up the neck of the bottle.
