During the early 1950s, as station wagons took on greater popularity and prestige with American buyers and their rapidly growing families. Along with restyled bodies for 1951, Chrysler repositioned the upscale Town & Country nameplate to a handsome, low-production station wagon for the Saratoga and New Yorker model lines. A mild styling update for 1952 was followed by further revisions for 1953, focused to a new frontal treatment and the addition of a new and fashionably curved windshield. The Town & Country station wagon was now made available on the 6-cylinder Windsor and V-8 New Yorker lines. Production for 1953 rose drastically over the previous model year, thanks in part to lowered prices as the economic uncertainty caused by the Korean conflict waned and America's economy was poised for a return to growth.

Rare as one of only 1,242 examples produced, this 1953 Chrysler Windsor Town & Country station wagon is a wonderful example, sporting a restoration and benefiting from the prior ownership of renowned collector Chuck Schneider in Michigan. Appropriately finished in two-tone Green paint with Brown interior upholstery, the Town & Country is powered by Chrysler's robust 265 CI "Spitfire" inline 6-cylinder engine, paired with Chrysler's innovative Fluid Drive 3-speed transmission, a Chrysler innovation which would be phased out later in the 1953 model year. The rear passenger/cargo compartment is particularly impressive, featuring a wood-paneled cargo floor, folding rear seat and substantial chrome-plated hardware and fittings.

Accompanied by its original dealer-issued sales invoice, this Town & Country includes a delightful set of 1950s luggage, plus features and options including an in-dash clock, pushbutton radio, heater, Solex glass, front and rear bumper guards and stone guards to the rear fenders. Steel wheels mount a set of full-size wheel covers and period style Whitewall tires. Ready to show and enjoy, this rare 1950s wagon is sure to please, offering a virtual trip back in time to the early 1950s. Be sure to call us today to see it for yourself, get full details and make this collector-grade classic station wagon yours!

Terms:

Bidders with less than 5 feedbacks must contact us prior to bidding. If you do not contact us, we reserve the right to cancel your bid without notice. Please do not ask our reserve price, simply bid what you are comfortable with.

Your winning bid is a contract to purchase the vehicle, not a "come, look, and negotiate." This is a serious auction for serious buyers only. Please ask all relevant questions prior to bidding. All vehicles are sold as-is. By placing a bid, you are agreeing to these terms of sale.

Winning bidder must communicate with Seller by phone within 24 hours of the end of auction to make arrangements to complete transaction.  If no contact is made, we reserve the right to re-list the vehicle, sell it to the next highest bidder, or sell it otherwise.

As-Is:

The Last Detail has described the above-mentioned vehicle to the best of our ability, however, as with all pre-owned automobiles, the condition is subjective, and recommend that the buyer inspect and test drive the vehicle before finalizing their purchase.  The Last Detail shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects associated with the vehicle at the buyer’s request prior to close of sale.  No allowances or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgement solely.  It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to verify the existence of options, accessories and the vehicle condition before time of sale. Any and all differences must be addressed prior to the time of sale. The Last Detail assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle.  Despite our best efforts to verify a vehicle’s mechanical condition, we are not able to warranty a manufacturer’s workmanship or a previous owner’s diligence in care of said vehicle.  There are no mechanical guarantees, expressed or implied. We will not be responsible for buyer’s remorse or issues to said vehicle once it has left our premises. We are being realistic; most of the cars we sell are vintage and by their very nature will need TLC and some degree of attention sooner or later.  Therefore, all vehicles are sold “AS IS”.  However, extended warranty options are available on most vehicles.  Please inquire if you are interested.

Mileage:

Vintage cars in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. The Last Detail makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown and accepts no responsibility for any discrepancy with independent reports such as CarFax, Autocheck, etc. Unless the vehicle is advertised as an original mileage car, do not assume that the mileage/odometer reading is the actual mileage. It is simply what the odometer is reading at the time pictures are taken. MILEAGE IS NOT ACTUAL UNLESS STATED SO IN THE DESCRIPTION! Vehicles are test driven and mileage may vary at time of sale.
