For sale is my 1990 BMW E30 318is.

I've owned this car for 6 years and no expense has been spared on keeping it a very good example. I am selling the car as I've not used it nearly at all this year and I am buying a house so need to free some some money. All the work in my ownership has been carried out by myself unless otherwise stated. I own Munich Motorworks, a BMW & Mini specaliast in Salisbury and the car has spent much time at the workshop getting sorted. Milage is at 168,840 with two service books.

Engine

The engine runs very well and pulls even better thanks to the good work the team at BDS motorsport have done. It now makes 153hp at the flywheel and the torque curve is very flat which is notiable on the road. This is thanks to their modified camshafts, ported throttlebody and dyno tune. When I first got the car, there was an oil leak from the front timing case so I took that oppourtinuty to remove the cylinder head and rebuild it (valve stem oil seals and reseat the valves etc.) Along with this, I replaced the timing chain with all genuine parts, along with a waterpump, radiator, thermostat and electric fan conversion with temerature cut in. More recently, I replaced the connecting rod bearings with uprated ACL bearings. The crankshaft was inspected and was in excellent condition.

Gearbox

The 5 speed manual gearbox works very well. Other than regular gearbox oil changed, no work has been needed. It utilises a 1.9 Z3 short shifter which pairs very well.

Differential

When I first got the car, the differential had been replaced with a LSD medium case from a 325i. This was at the incorrect gear ratio and made the car very sluggish. I had the diff rebuilt by Heasman Differentials to convert from a 3.25 to 4.1 ratio to match the original ratio, as well as adding an additional clutch pack to the LSD (now a 40% locking diff). As well as all new bearings, seals and paint. This alone complelety transformed the car.

Suspension

The car is fitted with KW V3 fully adjustable suspension with pillow ball adjustable front top mounts. It was then taken to String Theory garage for a professional corner weighting (50% crossweight) and custom alignment. This made a huge difference and is well set up to a fast road spec.

Exhaust

Exhaust was made locally at Maniflow of Salisbury. It's a mild steel system with twin exit stainless steel tips and sounds great.

Brakes

The brakes retain the largest factory setup fitted for the E30. Front and rear discs. EBC discs and yellow stuff pads at the front and Brembo discs and pads at the back. Very little wear on both and stops well. The car was optioned with ABS which it still has and works without fault.

Wheels and tyres

This car comes with the optional 15" BBS. Tyres are like new Toyo Proxes T1R fitted 2 years ago ready for the corner weighting and wheel alignment at String Theory. Only covered approx. 1000miles in that time.

Body work

More recently the car has been to Viking Detail for a 1 year ceramic coating, which due to the lack of use and exposure to the elements, is still like it was applied yesterday. I have had the sills below the door shuts repainted as previously the car had been undersealed and not correctly prepped for the body colour. Rust and corrosion are a huge consideration when looking to buy and E30 and I can assure you there is no issue with this car whatsever. The shell is in excellent condition. Paintwork has some age related marks which are to be expected.

Interior

I have yet to see another 318is in this very rare and only avaliable in 318is, indigo blue check trim. Arguably almost like new with some wear on the drivers seal bolster. The dashboard has a small crack in the storage bin but nothing to worry about. The headunit fitted is the fantastic Blaupunkt Bremen SQR-46 reissue with DAB, Bluetooth and handsfree preparation. All while retaining the period look. One of my favourite features of the car. Speakers are aftermarket Pioneer and sound good.

Misc.

A scorpion remote central locking and alarm/immobilister system has been fitted and works well. Seperate key for the boot lock.
Toolkit and spare wheel are all complete as well as the tool kit for the KW suspension, wheel jack and tyre brace etc.
Several spares come with the car inluding the original fan and fan shroud and original camshafts amongst others.

Bad points.

The offside fog light has taken damage from a stone and the paint work on the rocker cover is flaking. (Painted crackle black).

Please note I am in no rush to sell this car, nor shall I be taking any part exchanges of an kind. Silly offered will be ignored and it'll be put back into the garage until the right price comes up. This car is a guaranteed classic and will only be going up in value.
