Large-format 1964 fold-out pictorial map of midtown Manhattan by Hermann Bollmann.

  • This map offers a bird's-eye-view in an isometric perspective, with incredible amounts of detail.

  • Among the landmark buildings are Rockefeller Center, the Pan Am Building (now known as the MetLife building), the New York Hilton, Penn Station, the United Nations, Sperry Rand, Equitable Life, Museum of Modern Art, and the Empire State Building.

  • This stunning depiction is based on some 67,000 photographs — 17,000 aerial shots and the remainder taken from the ground. Each building was then hand drawn at a scale of 1:4,800.

  • Hermann Bollmann was a German illustrator, graphic designer and cartographer who combined photographic documentation with a sense of design in order to make this highly detailed yet readable cityscape, printed by Barnes Press and published by Pictorial Maps, Inc., 97 Warren Street, New York.

  • The map measures a generous 86 x 109.5 cm [33¾" x 43"].

  • It tucks inside the rear flap of a 48-page guide to the city, with decorative carboard covers, distributed by American Airlines.

  • On the reverse side there's a map of the five boroughs, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), and The Bronx, along with a locator map showing routes to the 1964-65 New York World's Fair.

  • Condition:  Both map and guide are in very good condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
