Powerful and imposing Classic EHARO mask from the ELEMA people from the eastern Gulf of Papua New Guinea.

Beautiful dance mask with distinguished features as opened mouth and the colar of natural fibers. It is painted in white, black and red and and it has a age related nice patina. The "wings" are made seperately and attached to the body with strings (one missing, see last picture).

In contrast to the large sacred hevehe masks, the smaller eharo masks were meant for amusing the audience, and were used only twice during the 7 to 20 years long hevehe cycle.

The mask is in a overall good condition, but can show some age related marks or cracks. Have a good look at the pictures.
