I'm not sure about this mask's origin; it was purchased directly from an African trader. Looks like it could be either Bwa (Burkina Faso) or Ogoni Karikpo (Nigeria). It is old and shows a lot of wear. From the strange crest, Shrek ears, dumbfounded eyes, and notched ridge nose to the lethal-looking tooth-filled beak of a mouth, it is a very interesting example of African artisanry. I have no doubt as to its authenticity. The interior has acquired a rich patina and the attachment holes document repeated lashings.
