This breathtaking antique 1ct old mine-cut diamond is fabulously deep - giving a unique depth of character and the enchanting behaviour only available from genuine hand-cut antique stones and is set into a superb quality modern 18 carat gold solitaire ring.

Each old mine-cut stone is created painstakingly step by step, by hand and often with extremely simple tools - no two are ever alike. It's a unique and bewitching example of a diamond, with larger facets than modern stones - leading to moody flashes from deep within rather than being all sparkle and providing a further dimension that really draws the eye. Its smaller table catches the light magically and begs for attention while interacting with the distinct open culet at the stone's base not found in later stones - this combines perfectly with the superb eight-claw crowned white gold setting that forms a halo for the stone. The diamond is an estimated J-K colour, and SI-P1 clarity.

The ring itself is a wonderful quality, solid 18 carat gold band, elegant, thick and wide and with knife-edge shoulders that carry fretted underbezels to the stunning raised, tapered crown-shape basket head designed to enable light to flood in from beneath.

The ring bears a hallmark for Birmingham 1990's/2000's, and is engraved '1.00cts' for the warranted weight of the diamond. It's a size 7.25 resizable, the diamond measures 7.0 mm in diameter and it's in lovely condition overall, the diamond dates to around 1910/20, and has small nicks to the girdle that are practically invisible to the naked eye - and bear witness to its life and authenticity. It weighs in at an impressive 3.1 grams.
