I have for auction two copies of the Marvel charity comic, Heroes for Hope, featuring the X-Men, published in Dec 1985 and one copy of The New Teen Titans DC charity comic to foster drug abuse awareness, published in Dec 1983.  was an avid comic book reader from the 1960s-mid 1980s, and these are part of my private collection.  They were read once, then bagged and stored for the last 37 years or so.

Please take a close look at the pictures.  Without examining them too closely, I would call these somewhere around Fine/Very Fine (7.0), probably higher.  There are no missing or loose pages or tears, colors are nice and bright, corners reasonably square, etc.  All in all, these are nice looking comics.  So, examine the pictures carefully, and I’ll send additional pictures as desired.

As an aside, if the story line for the Heroes for Hope comic seems a bit…disjointed, that is probably because there are 10 or so different writers (including Stan Lee, Stephen King, Ed Bryant, Chris Claremont, Jim Shooter and Archie Goodwin), and an equal number of pencilers (Including Frank Miller, John Buscema, John Bolton), Inkers (including Bill Sienkiewicz, Sal Buscema and Steve Leialoha) and others.  IOW, this was an industry joint effort to provide relief for hunger.

Also, the New Teen Titans comics was published during the administration of Ronald Reagan, and the inside cover contains a letter from his wife, Nancy.  It says (in part):  "The battle is against drug abuse.  Declare that you will stay drug-free.  At any cost.  You’re guaranteed to win.  And you’ll be a hero—to your mother and father, family and friends, but most of all, to yourself.  There’s a lot more to it and you’ll learn about it as you go along.  The President feels as strongly as I do about winning this battle.  His Drug Awareness Campaign put the material together and the generous corporations paid for it.  It was done especially for you.  We hope you will give being a hero your very best effort.  Sincerely, (signed) Nancy Reagan.”

In keeping with the original thought for these comics, all proceeds from this auction will be donated to Gleaners Food Bank of SE Michigan.  Here is their mission statement:  Gleaners Community Food Bank, with broad community support, fights hunger in southeastern Michigan. In collaboration with our member agencies, the Feeding America network, and our program partners, we provide millions of pounds of donated and purchased food to people in need. In so doing, Gleaners is committed to distributing high quality food. Through education and advocacy, we will reduce reliance on the emergency food system. Gleaners adopts best practices and cost-effective systems and procedures to achieve the highest possible return on its human and financial resources. Gleaners fulfills its role with a sense of compassion and urgency while nourishing, sustaining and advancing hope in our community.”  I have supported Gleaners for many years, and I find them to be worthy of support.  The only “profit” from this sale I personally will receive is the charitable deduction on my 2024 taxes, assuming I have enough to itemize.

Opening bid is $2.50.  I will ship them USPS Priority Mail, unless directed otherwise.  Cost to ship is $8.  The comics will be bagged, boarded, bubble-wrapped and shipped in a Gemini comic box.

I have other comic lots for auction and would be happy to combine shipping costs.

If you have any questions, or want more pictures, please don’t hesitate to ask.  Thanks for looking, and happy bidding (bid generously, it’s for a good cause.)
