These appear to be Texas/South Western Chaps. Pre WWII so at least 80 years old.
Rescued from the estate of an elderly gentleman who served with a Horse Guards Regiment during National Service in England in the late 1940's
Chaps were designed to protect riders legs from the thorny bushes (Chapporal)
Original chaps were attached to the pommel not the rider, next came Shotgun chaps with straight legs which made it difficult to mount the horse. Finally came the Batwing which gave greater protection and much easier to get on the horse
Decorated versions of the batwing were the standard for rodeo riders
These chaps are in remarkably good condition for their age and are interesting in the fact that a leather pad has been added to protect the inside of the left leg.
Some tooled decoration and tassels. A couple are missing and one disc has been replaced with a circle cut from a tin can!
Still wearable but ideal for a collector or decorator. fabulous for a Man Cave
