Taki Watei, "Tansei Appan Dai-ichi Shu Unshu Shikyo" (Takiwatei, "The First Collection of Tanshin Ikkoku, Unshu Shikyo")

27th year of Meiji (1894)

First edition.

With binding.

Complete with separate volume.

Complete, with all contents and outer wrappers.

Woodcut sheet size 321*264mm/12.6x10.4".

Slight insect damage to the margins of the plates and a small tear to the final sheet of the separate volume (no missing portions). Otherwise, the book is clean and in good condition.

Taki Watei, a member of the Imperial Household Artists' Association, has produced a collection of 12 woodblock prints from "Tansei Appan Dai-ichi Shu," a collection of realistic and beautiful illustrated manuscripts combining ancient paintings of the Southern and Northern Schools, on woodblock print color plates (colored woodblock prints by hand), with a separate volume that provides detailed instructions on how to draw the 12 illustrations.

This is a very rare book that differs from Taki Watei's "Tansei Appan" published in the same year.
