Avians Notes:
  • I estimate the condition of this awesome vintage underground comix to be 9.0 or better.
  • An exceptional underground comix book for this grade.
  • Gently read then individually bagged with acid free backing board, this vintage underground comix has been stored by me for 40+ years and it looks just as good as it did the day it was purchased and has only minor condition issues.
  • The cover is tight and flat with very little surface wear and the cover inks are bright with high reflectivity and very little fading.
  • Cover is centered and aligned correctly and is vibrant and clean with supple interior pages that are white to off-white.
  • The interior black and white inks are bright and fresh, and the staples are in great shape.
  • Corners are cut square but not razor sharp.
  • The spine is tight and flat and has small stress lines esp. around the staples that break the ink.
  • Top edge of cover shows light chipping.
  • Back cover spine shows moderate surface wear or soiling and scuffing.
  • For the avid fan, collector or investor this classic underground comix is an opportunity for you to own a piece of comic book history and capture a uniquely classic item.
  • This it is a sweet find and a great addition to your underground collection.  Well worth your consideration.

Mother's Oats Comix #1 features the debut of Sheridan's Dealer McDope character in "The Doings of Dealer McDope."
Dealer McDope became one of Sheridan's signature characters, selected as the poster boy for the 1972 California Marijuana Initiative and starring in his own board game published by Last Gasp.
The comix also features Schrier's "Ego Trips," in which his protagonist goes on a wild, psychedelic journey to rescue his ego, which was stolen by his id.

Historical Footnote:
Underground Comix are known for using different prices, covers (art or color variations) and/or interior content to distinguish between different print runs.
5th print: The 4th and 5th printings state "3rd Edition" at the bottom of the back cover, have a white background for the Rip Off logo, and the type in the word balloons is in solid black ink.
The only way to differentiate the 4th and 5th printings is by the artwork in the Rip Off Press logo on the front cover.   In the 4th printing, the handle of the knife clenched in the pirate's mouth is on the right. In the 5th printing, the handle is on the left.
