This is, unfortunately, one of the antiques that I have nearly zero provenance for. It was purchased at a local antique auction where it was sold as an "Antique Hand-Carved Madonna & Child From Italy". Here's the caveat: I cannot with certainty say that it is made of wood. Likely, yes. Possibly a pyrography piece. There are no distinguishing marks or signatures anywhere, so whether it came from Europe or down the road, again, I cannot say. Which means that, of course, I also cannot promise that it is antique.

So, what do I know? Though tiny (approximately 3" H x 2.25" L, with a 5" circumference at its base), the detail and the passion that was placed into this piece of religious art is astounding. Every little nuance has been accounted for, creating a small figure that telegraphs the passion of the Madonna for her child, the savior.
